Weatherization Program
ICAP’s Weatherization Department currently serves eligible clients in six counties: Delaware, Henry, Hancock, Rush, Johnson, and Shelby.
The Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP) enables low-income families to reduce their energy bills by making their homes more energy efficient. Funds are used to improve the energy performance of dwellings families in need. ICAPs goal is to lower your energy loss and appliances to a safe, working order and extend the life of the appliance where possible.
Weatherization uses professionally trained weatherization crews to perform computerized energy assessments and use advanced diagnostic equipment, such as blower doors and infrared cameras, to create a comprehensive analysis of the home to determine the most cost-effective measures and to identify any health and safety concerns. Weatherization providers also thoroughly inspect households to ensure the occupant’s safety, checking indoor air quality, combustion safety, carbon monoxide, and identifying mold infestations — which are all indications of energy waste.
Eligibility
Services are available to individuals who either rent or own their own homes. Eligibility is determined by the gross annual income of the household 200% or lower and households must include 1 member who is either elderly (over 60), disabled (SSI income) or 18 years of age or younger.
Applying for Assistance
If you already receive energy assistance through our Energy Assistance Program, you income has already been calculated.
If you meet the household and income qualification you may call your local office to fill out a Weatherization Application. You may be asked to bring Social Security cards, Photo ID, proof of home ownership, gas and electric bills, and proof of all income.
Weatherization services can only be completed once on a given structure. If you move to another home you may qualify for weatherization services on that home. Landlords can participate if they agree to pay 25% or $1,000 (whichever is lower) of the project cost.
Please note: The process for weatherization is not quick, and is not an emergency repair program. Also, not all homes that apply will qualify for the program. Weatherization Program is not a remodeling or rehab program. No repairs to roofs, floors, mold, and other rehab items can be funded or completed by Weatherization.
